Sign Variance Committee Minutes 1/27/05
VILLAGE OF EVENDALE
SIGN VARIANCE COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR THE
JANUARY 27, 2005 MEETING

The sign Variance Committee met on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 5:30 P.M., in the Council Library of the Village of Evendale Municipal Building.  Chairman Ted Mueller, members Pat Finan, Wayne Mosley, Fred Caston, and Councilman Stiney Vonderhaar were present.  Also present was Pam Morin, Building Department.

The committee heard the following request:

1.      Gorman Heritage Farm, 3035 Gorman Heritage Farm Lane
Request to install two ground signs, one along their entrance at Reading        Road and the second along Cooper Road.
Represented by Gary Goosman, Director of Gorman Heritage Farm

Gorman Heritage Farm (GHF) wishes to replace the existing entrance sign with a 2’-4” by 5’-0” sign located 12 feet from the gate and two feet from the side of the lane into the farm.  The slightly larger sign would allow Gorman Heritage Farm to provide more information, i.e. admission fee and hours, to the general public.  It would not be visible from Reading Road.

The second sign would be 4’-6” by 4’-0” and located 16 feet off the sidewalk along Cooper Road.  They will have to raise the sign up 4’ – 5’ from ground level, because there is a slight decline at the sign location.  This would allow the sign to be visible from the road.  They currently have a small, indistinguishable sign along Cooper Road.  GHF feels that the new sign would be a directional sign for traffic driving along Cooper Road and the chalk board would allow them to advertise upcoming events and to sell produce in season.

All adjoining property owners were notified of the meeting.  There were not public comments.

Wayne Mosley made a motion to recommend to Council to approve the variance request with the stipulation that the current signs be removed.  Stiney Vonderhaar seconded the motion.  The motion passed with the vote of 4 – 0, with Pat Finan abstaining because he is currently serving on the Facility Committee for GHF.

2.      Approval of the minutes for the September 13, 2004 meeting.

Stiney Vonderhaar made a motion and Pat Finan seconded the motion that the minutes be approved as read.

The meeting was adjourned by 6:30 P.M.
